Be careful, you have not provided sufficient deatil about your car to give a definitve answer.
You realise you will at least lose functionality if the n-form console and even worse depending on your model

Mine is from 2007. So no ISO connector? hmm, is it still possible to connect that device?

In the linked howto, it's done for 2005 P12, without navigation system. So that applies only to that, but I think you can combine things. Basically the device is plugged to back of the cd-player (to the cd-changer plug) and after that you need to figure out, where to connect two lose wires ;) Other than that, it works for me :)

i do have sat nav, havent opened up the panel yet, after reading all this i dare not ask if there are aftermarket usb capable radio's that are built for p12's..
Having a satnav shouldn't make a difference on the plug right? maybe prohibit a bit of access room but should be possible |

Afaik, no aftermarket radio's for P12 available :/ At least not as plug-and-play ;)
I think that you can safely check the back of the cd-unit and see, if it matches to my howto. If it does, I would go for it :)

Defo no usb available the primera P12 was designed well before this tech came along, MP3 was not heard of.
You would be completely wrong about the satnav, the audio units have an additional board which runs the satnav and various other n-form controls through it, The is no aftermarket P12 alternative. Some have done it on the most basic of models.

Hi 5496langford.
It is possible to change the P12's built in radio, but with restrictions!!!
I know because I did this five years ago to mine. The built in radio could not even play back MP3 discs, one made on ones pc and last for 12 hrs without having to change the disc.
1st
Remove the built in radio, Timeshock has a good link showing one how to do this on the P12
2nd
The P12's radio is also one of the cannot do without units for the built in SATNAV. Completely removing this from the car will cause the satnav to fail and the center console functions will not work anymore, its amplifier is use for the speech as to when and where to turn etc!
Therefor the main connecting plug its the biggest of the plugs at the back of the radio, MUST be left in the unit after it has been removed from its central position. ie connected up again at a different location of resting. The unit will most lickly have to be reduced in size for tucking away underneath the heater behind the console on the carpet. If you need tips on how to do this I would be more than happy to let you now how. The loom cable is long enough for this but no where else. Your new radio gets the antena cable. and the square factory fitted white eight pin connector, this is the speekers cables plug.
3rd
If you intend to refit the original radio when you sell the car maybe, I sugest you splice and solder a purchased EU standard speakers plug on to the exsisting wires of the built in speakers plug cables. The standard EU plugs are not expensive over here round about a fiver. You will have to find a safe feed and earth for your new radio.
4th
With the new non nissan radio now fitted in its holder, conect up the euro standard speakers cable ,connect up your fused 12v power feed and earth, and you should be up and running.
The car will still recognise that its radio is fitted the satnav will boot up and you will now have the pleasure of your own radio with all the things it can do etc. but of coarse no speech directions from the navi if it is used because there are no speakers connected anymore!
The speaker plug has eight cables because the speakers do no use a rail earth. ie they each have their own plus and minus for each speaker. Do not mix up the minus and plus on each speaker as this will affect the sound they reproduce. Especially in the bass areas.
Please be carefull when tinkering, with all the cables plugs & other things behind that console cover, it is very easy to inadvertantly cause damage and trouble to the systems which you will find out about when its all back together again.
Hope this has been of help

One small point I forgot to mention. Be extreemly careful when poking around behind the console with pushing pulling and moving wires and srewdrivers.
REASON, there are still a couple of LIVE wires around. Even with the ignition key removed!!!!!
If you want to be absolutely sure no short circuits can happen, the only way to insure this is to disconnect the batteries earth to the car.
