Morning all,

I was advised to post a new thread about this problem in the hope that someone can help.
My drivers door wont lock although it sounds as if the actuator on the door is working.
I don't know how long I have had this problem but only noticed it yesterday after I cleaned the car.
I finished cleaning it and went in doors, when I went back out I couldn't remember if I had locked the car so I tried the drivers door and it opened, then the alarm went off. Made me jump because I didn't even know it had an alarm.
Has anyone else had a problem with the drivers door not locking and is it an easy fix.
All the other doors lock fine.
This site is great and everyone is sooooo helpful. Thanks Guys & Gals

It sounds as if you can open the car door with the handle inside and out so that has ruled out the handle the lock connectors.

Have you checked all the other doors?
have you tried operating the doors lock using the switch inside the car?

I have a similar problem, I think the actuator is (mostly) kaput. Very occasionally it will lock but the mechanism makes a grinding noise when that happens. I've tried squirting wd40 in every orifice in the area of the lock to no avail. Unfortunately I rarely have the weather when it is safe to have the door open long enough to dismantle the lock.

As a temporary measure, you can secure the car manually - above the upper screw that holds the lock mechanism there is a hole, put the end of your key (or a flat screwdriver etc) into the slotted black plastic doo-dah inside and turn it slightly clockwise. Close the door & lock using the remote - it should now be locked, saving you accidentally setting off the alarm every time you get in the car. Which never happens to me...

Hi Timeshock & Paulb,

Thanks for the advice.
I have checked all the other doors and they all lock fine. I have tried using the switch inside the car by leaving the window open and reaching through to use the switch. That didn't lock the drivers door either.
Thanks for the advice about using the plastic doo dah to lock the door. I have done that and it works fine. I assume that I will need to turn this switch every time I want to lock the door.
Do you know if the door locking actuators are an expensive item to replace and are they easy to do?

Not sure on the price

I recommend you download the free electronic service manual following the link below
http://www.npoc.co.uk/forum/nissan-primera-factory-service-manuals_topic29493.html

You will find all the necessary detail in there to change the unit, it will also give you a test procedure to absolutely identify the actuator is the problem and it is not an electrical issue or the SECU is faulty

Pretty certain it will be the actuator

Thanks for that,

I have already been trying to download the manual and just left a post on the 'techs and specs' forum asking for help to get the manual.
I'm not having a good time with these issues at the mo. but many thanks for your help anyway.

I couldn't get to the final download page. All I got was loads of ads asking me to install various things including websearch tool bars.
Haven't been able to get past those on my PC.

Hi,
I have just ordered a secondhand door lock actuator from a breaker company online. Cost me £40 for the part and it has a 6 month warranty. Hopefully it will be the right part and will solve the problem I have with not being able to lock my drivers door.
Only problem I have is not knowing how to remove the door panels etc. and fitting the part. I assume it will be relatively easy but saying that, is it ever easy fitting parts on cars.
If anyone can offer advice on how to remove and fit the new part it would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried downloading the manual from the links on 'techs and specs' forum but had no success so I gave up trying.
