Both are good cars and the extra power of GT i`ve heard, is down to the fact the GTi has a pre-cat in the downpipe......so obviously when both are modded they are equal in power terms.
Almera GTi Track Car: 8200rpm DE 191.8whp 211hp @ fly 156lbs torque 1/4 Mile 13.83 @ 101.75. 974kg without driver.....

I used to have an Almera 1.6slx and it was a really good handling car, however the primera feels like a bit more of an executive car to drive. - silly little things like the damper to slow the glove box opening etc

Weird as it seems the almera was actually nearly 100kg heavier than the prim although once lowered plus upper strut braces (which the gti's have std) it stuck like sh*t to a bed sheet.

The way i look at it is the almera is more of a hot hatch whereas the prim is more of an exec motor :D So it depends what kind of a car you prefer?

Lighter = Bonus
SR20 = Power
The Almeras back end = FAIL.

lol, just my opinion.

I like my cars like I like my women, big and from the 80's

hardly a fair comparison, a GT against a 1.4 Almera

Primera everytime for handling like. No doubt the almera is slightley quicker but its down to weight. To me the almera slides on the back end more when pushed hard though compared to the primera. Only the GTi almera handles decently but again stil slides.

its each to there own, i can get 4 set of golf clubs in the back of the primera and 4 ppl in there comfortable. an it handles sweet!
but a think the rear of the almera isnt bad.

I can't comment on the driving side of things as I've never had the fortune to play about with an Almera GTi, however I've been in them and in my opinion, the interiors are "lower rent" than the Primera.

I also think personally the Primera looks better . . . I think stretched hatchbacks / saloons of the Primera size look a lot better (in any guise) than a practicality orientated hatch, hot or otherwise.

That said, as others have mentioned, the engine is the same so theoretically the same power gains are achievable and given the trimmer waistline, it'll always shift quicker than a similarly modded Prim.
