im getting a whirring noise in 1 to 3 gears anybody any ideas also starting to squeak at times when i change gear

Whatever car it is, the first thing I would check is the gearbox oil!

its a 1.8s on a 56 plate its done 45k

as said above get the oil level checked in the gearbox. if its making a whirring noise could it be the release bearing?

cheers just had a service so gear oil level fine, been told it may be a bearing anybody got any ideas as to how much this should cost ?.

£35 for an OE bearing + the cost of new gear oil, and say 3 hours labour. May be worth throwing in some new drivesahft oil seals for peace of mind.
Almera GTi Track Car: 8200rpm DE 191.8whp 211hp @ fly 156lbs torque 1/4 Mile 13.83 @ 101.75. 974kg without driver.....

Since when does a service check the gear box oil level. I would check it.

ditto. Nissan service manual only states to check the gearbox oil at around 65k miles.

Also, on the early ish P12's it has a gear oil filler half way up the side of the box.... If you fill it up to there your asking for trouble. It needs filling/checking from where the speedo drive goes.  ( 1.8 petrol only I think )
