    Posted: 30 Aug 2011 at 10:39am
hi, sorry couldn't find anything on battery warning lights in the forum

Well basically mine has come on, battery went flat.  Have recharged the battery, and engine starts, but the battery light is still on.

Is my alternator not working in that case?

thanks

i would say the alternator is not charging the battery if you have a meter test to see what votes are going to the battery when it is running you should be getting around 14 volts if i remember right

My local garage connected a gizmo that gave a printed health check report of alternator/battery. Whole process took about a minute and they didn't charge for it. (I needed a new battery).

The battery light comes on if the battery isn't being charged (e.g. when the engine isn't running but the ignition is on). If it's on when the engine is running then there's something wrong with the charging system - usually the alternator has a fault.
