hi and welcome to npoc.

yup there is the port for connecting OBD1 fault reader etc...but it won't show anything for ABS.

most commonly the issue is because the ABS ring is dirty or there is crap between the abs ring and sensor itself....if not, then the next problem is the ring may have a crack in it, which can be sorted by replaceing the CV joint which can be got for around £30ish ...

the worst case scenario is if the sensor is buggered, which means an expensive sensor to replace..

i would say its a common ploblem, most times it the sensor cable that has a brake somewhere in it,then causes the light to come on at times, it could be damaged just as the cable goes behide
the wheel hub, also could be as said above.

Hi there,

i had a knackered sensor on my 1997 p11 2.0, I had to get it fixed for an mot, (the last mot the mechanic stuck a square of black tape over the abs warning light on the dash!!) & was looking at getting a new sensor... until a friend (who works at a private nissan specialist garage) had a p11 1.6 scrapper who suggested taking the complete hub from the 1.6 & swapping it for my broke one... it fitted & works fine, abs light gone off, brakes now work properly, & it cost me £50 for the part & fitting! happy days:)))
peace

Hi,

If you go to most fast fit garages they can read faults using a Bosch KTS200 for about £30 through the till or most of the lads would do it for a few tins of beer or £5 in their back pocket. Find out which corner the fault is coming from and the look a the condition of the ABS ring (cracks and big clumps of dirt/grease) if not then its most likely the sensor.

Best of luck.

Jon

what would be best way of cleaning the ABS rings, ive tried jetwash and after many month the light is back on. also i think rear calliper is a tad seized. would this more likely to be the cause rather than the abs rings?

The cause of what?

Having a sticky calliper wont affect ABS operation.

It if's intermittent the most likely cause is a Sensor wire.Ie open circuit.

If it was a actual ABS sensor, the ABS light would stay on all the time, till the bad sensor got replaced. As the don't go faulty they just completely fail.

Why not just read the code?

Run car at 20MPH for 1min or more, then switch igniton off.Put a bare end wire in the 4th pin across the top row of the grey diagnostic socket located near the fuse box area below the steering wheel.Put the other end of the wire to the door hinge etc (earth point) and now turn ignition back on (Don't start the car) then the ABS light will start to flash in sequences first slow and then fast.

So if you get 1 slow flash (counts as 10s)and 2 fast flashes (counts as 1s) that would mean 12 which is no fault found.

Report back with the code and I tell you what it is or look it up yourself.

would i be able to use paperclip, or would proper wire be better. does it matter if i have been driving around before?

also if no fault is found, why could the light be on. its not flashing, its just solid and on, not turning off either.
