Hi Guys
Got a 2005 1,8 SX and as a family car we love it,well built roomy and loads of kit!
6 months in we're still only getting 250 miles from a tank, around 25-26 mpg on the display. It's had a service with quality parts, done 45k, seems to run lovely.
NOTE,it only does short (5-8 mile) urban runs with traffic lights and stop start stuff.

Simple question, is this how a 1.8 petrol is on urban only, or are there any tips to try to improve matters??

Many thanks!!

according to auto trader they do 28.9 mpg in urban driving, so not too far off tbh, if your lugging family and shopping about on stop start journeys its not going to be great mpg, might be worth getting it scanned just to check everything is tickety boo Thumbs Up

Thanks Sam, tbh it aint lugging family round much, empty boot, little wife (!). So maybe you're right, but, being a mechanical dummy, what's the next step to get this scan done?

Thanks in advance!

most reputable garages carry software for fault scanning, if you were closer, my old man could do it for 3 tenners but bit of a long drive for you LOL

25mpg is about right around town in stop/start traffic for a petrol car of that size.

A tiny petrol might get you 40mpg around town, saving about £30 a month. Not really worth it.

27.5 mpg around town in my P11-144.

I think it's terrible and am not sure if my brakes are dragging - there is sometimes noise at low speed.

I hope to service them myself when I find out what I need.

I have a 2003 WP12 with the QG18DE, with mixed driving I only get about 350 Miles from a tank.
It is not the most economical car i have ever owned for sure, but i find the car is much more dependant on your driving style.
If i hit info twice and look at my range meter and MPG meter, i do find i can get much more miles out of a tank.
It's a symptom of Leadfootitis, the meter and an OBDII scanner/app saves me a fortune.

We have a 2002 P12 1.8 and my wife does mainly short stop/start stuff and a few longer trips and we get between 30-32MPG, out friend has a 2006 1.8 and she does a decent commute everyday and is a very careful driver and she gets 40+ MPG. So probably about right for your journey's, just try some gentle driving and you really can get loads more out of these engines, driving style has a dramatic effect I've found...

Thanks everyone, I was more concerned if there was something wrong that needed to be fixed, it seems not but the feedback is great! We love the car and whilst it is probably O.T.T. for its' current use,we enjoy the car, for us it's a luxury upgrade from a worthy but old Citroen Xsara!

Mind you,on this topic,is it worth getting or having someone do it for me),an OBD scanner?

Thanks again! Clap

Unless you have an engine light on, a basic OBD2 scan is not going to show anything. A more indepth scan will probably cost a few months worth of petrol.

Good to hear that you are enjoying the car. With such a low mileage, MPG doesn't matter very much.

Have a google for eco driving. You can save a bit by changing your driving style.
Less braking, light acceleration, etc.
