Any advice guys

I can not open the doors on my P12 using the key fobs.  I have no problem locking the doors but once they are locked i cannot open them with the key fobs.  I have tried both fobs and changed the batteries on both of them but its made no difference.  At the moment i have to leave my car unlocked over night or risk setting the alarm off at 6 in the morning every day, which the neighbors wont like.

Can anyone advise??

Thanks

Hi   welcome to NPOC!

If you are saying you can lock but not unlock with the keyfob then that would suggest a problem with the unlock buttons on the fob.
If you can niether lock or unlock with the fob then the fobs have most likely lost there codes.

To recode the keys  do as follows
Make sure all doors are unlocked .....use key in passenger side door to do this.

Put key in ignition
Turn key from lock position to on position ( don't start engine ) 6 times within 10 secs then return key to lock.
After 2 secs hazards will flash twice to indicate you are in programming mode.
Leaving key in ign
1     Press and hold the unlock button then
2     Press and release the lock button 3 times
3     Now release the unlock button.
Hazards should flash once.                        if not repeat from 1

Leaving first key in ign take second key and repeat from 1 above.

After programming second key turn ign to on and hazards should flash twice.

Remove keys and ckeck they work.
If in doubt give it a clout!

Can't help on the fob problem, but you can still secure the car by using the lock button between the front seats before closing the driver's door. That locks the car without engaging the alarm, and you can unlock using the key on the hidden lock on the passenger's door. Bit of a pain, but somewhat safer than a completely open car.
If you've never investigated the hidden lock, it's underneath the rear part of the passenger door handle - the bit that is still attached to the car when you pull the handle out - if you look closely there is a small slot at the back end that you can poke the key (or a flat screwdriver) in and prise the plastic cap off.

You need to open up the key fobs and check whether the microswitches are broken. (the little buttons)

I have a similar problem, my local dealer said that the microswitches need replacing and they can supply a new key and code it in for £136!!!
I have seen the the whole thing, key fob, microswitches and battery for £15 from Pots of Gold.
I realise I would have to solder in those bits and I will have to recode the the key.

Does anyone think it's worth getting this item online and trying to do it myself? And how hard is it to solder etc?
I would appreciate some replies as I cannot lock my car at present and I don't like getting ripped off by a dealer

Thank you

Good soldering is a bit of an art and there is a knack to it, the hardest part is getting the old switches off without lifting the copper print.
Try having a word with your local TV shop , they may be willing to do it for you.
If its just the switches that are faulty then you shouldn't need to recode.
If in doubt give it a clout!

Thanks for that Timeshock.

Having had another look at the website I can buy a a key fob with the microswitches all ready complete for £34, then I only have to programme it.
Will it be quite simple to programme it? I know someone has described how to do it above.

Thanks for the help

Welcome to NPOC,

Have a look on ebay.
Complete fobs and repair kits available cheaper than you have found.
Repair services also available.

Where are you located?
