Hello all, I have a Nissan Primera
2002 plate 2.2 Diesel estate .... The Air Con had stopped working over
a year ago, but being told by the dealership that it could cost up to £1400 to
'fix it' decided that it was not worth it, so didn't bother. A couple of months ago, the Fan
blower stopped working and again was told it would be around £45 for the part
and £80 to 'fit it' etc. but the 'engineer' explained it was probably the
control unit and it was easy to fit myself .... (but under his breath said ...
check out CPOC for a solution .... wink, wink) Already having registered with NPOC
did a search and found the superb instructions on how to remove and repair the
Fan Control Unit, got the parts and fixed it, and also replaced the pollen
filter as suggested .... all worked well. Then, yesterday, I took the car into
an 'Air Con' specialist garage for them to check it out, they tested the Pump
which appeared to be ok. but the 'gas' was very low, so they 'drained' it and
did a vacuum check, which was also ok, they then re-gassed the system,
re-checked it, and put some sort of 'dye' in the gas with instructions that if
it failed, to get it into them and they may be able to use 'ultra violet' to
identify the dye if there is gas leak etc. .... but the Air Con was working
again (after about 18 months) As I was driving home, with Air Con
on and the Fan blower at 2 bars, suddenly after about 10 minutes, (as though
when the engine temperature reached a certain value), the Fan Blower went to
Full Blower Power, even though there were still only 2 bars indicated on the
control display. Since then, I have not been able to
control the fan speed at all, it is permanently on Full, even from when I turn
on the Ignition. I suspect the Fan Control Unit's
power transistor has 'blown' to a 'short circuit' causing full power to be given
to the Fan. Has anybody experienced this type of
a fault, found a solution, or has a circuit diagram of the Fan Control Module ? I will take the Fan Control Unit
apart again and 'reverse engineer' the circuit if there is not one available,
and test and try to fix it .... I suspect (and hope) it was just a coincidence
that it happened a the same time as the Air Con was 'fixed'. Any help or advice would be greatly
appreciated. |

Hi Roy and a big welcome to NPOC
I have edited your thread title and made sure it starts with "Nissan Primera P12.. (with further description)" - Please keep on top of that (it is explained in our forum rules): http://www.npoc.co.uk/forum/forum-guidelines-rules_topic2&FID=1&PR=3.html Point 2) Many thanks and take care, Steve |

Chances are that the insulation at the fuse has broken down allowing it to short to the heat sink.
Believe this happened to one other person when they repaired theres. There is very little to the module ,the transistor looks like an IGFET so won't read like a normal transistor but certainly should not read a dead short across any of it's legs. Along with that you have a couple of resistors , a diode ( which again should not read short ) and some capacitors.

Hi Stevie-Boy, Many thanks for that, this was my fist time posting so wasn't totally sure if it was correct, I'll check it with my next post. Electrolyte, Thank you for such a fast response to my post. As it was this high temperature fuse that had 'blown' that I 'fixed' last time, it is looking quite probable that the insulation has broken down and created a short circuit as you suggest, and it is just a coincidence that it was when the Air Con was sorted, or maybe disturbing things caused it, anyway, I will check it out, probably on Monday or Tuesday and post my findings, and thanks again. |

This is for the P11 and P11-144 The P10 has a different shape card but the principle is the same. http://www.npoc.co.uk/forum/nissan-primera-p11-144-heater-ac-issue_topic58428_post751771.html#751771 |
