Normal for a diesel, it's just the carbon building up then being blown out under hard acceleration. :)

Hard to say. How much smoke? difficult to quantify.
It's normal to get smoke on acceleration, but if it is really a lot, then you could have a problem.
What you think is a lot, could be normal. Or not.

No power loss?

Hi Kitty, my 2.2DCi is just the same - the first time I put my foot down I was THUNDERSTRUCK by the big black cloud I left behind!  But after I'd had a think I came to the same conclusion as Janner -its just what diesels do.  It's in ok mechanical nick generally and not high mileage, there weren't any scary advisories on the last MOT so I'm not losing any sleep over it.

It is normal, don't worry about it, and as for the emissions they heat the engine up good and proper with plenty of revs and give it several goes.

If unsure, post up a video of the exhaust while revving the engine.

I had an intercooler hose failing last year. Lots of smoke was the result....

Normal smoke is not deep black, but dark greyish, I think.

For comparison, this is not normal, but a guy trying to get more power and more smoke.

It is quite normal if you only do short runs, I gave mine an Italian tune up which cleared the exhaust, it passed it MOT fine, not sure if the n.Ireland MOT is the same as ours though, good luck
