The names Geoff.
I joined for information predominately but who knows I might hang around depending on the response I get. 2.2 dci estate on a 2003, 120,000 miles on the clock, dual mass flywheel n clutch changed 20,000 miles back, new front pads n discs 3,000 miles ago. Firstly, what else could I expect to give me problems? Secondly, what kind of standard fitment is the ICE in the car, wattage etc? |

Hi and welcome to the forum
At that mileage start listening to the timing chain. Has it ever had anything done to the turbo? is it still on the original exhaust? That sort of mileage suspension normally needs some attention particularly drop links. Have a look at the radiator support for corrosion.
As for the ICE you can't change it so not sure where you are leading with that question

What type of sound system is fitted to it and how does it perform? It`s a friend`s son`s car and he needs shot of it.
It`s being offered to me at a very reasonable price but obviously I am asking about it here because there`s little information out in webland that I can find. Oh, thanks for the welcome. |

Well you have not mentioned the spec of the car but I can tell from the year it is 1st edition P12 so as a minimum it will be a radio/CD made by Clarion. It may have a sub woofer under the drivers seat and it may have a cd changer in the boot. Don't expect mp3 or bluetooth capability

An SE I think, an estate in a weird silver grey colour with plenty of wounds.
So, timing chain issues, down to tensioner problems or general wear n tear? I reckon the exhaust is the original, I`m also guessing they might be expensive when they go? Do you know the wattage / output of the Clarion system fitted as standard? |

Timing chain stretches beyond the tensioner limits.
Back box and centre section fitted £190 ish
As for wattage, I could not tell you, not something that interest me when buying a car. As for standard fitting, something you must understand about P12's you can't change them at least not without real work and effort while keeping the original hidden, wired and working.

Ahaaa, chain stretch. So, big job to do? I`m a very competent engineer and will tackle most jobs.
Exhaust price seems reasonable, they`re all expensive nowadays. I currently own a Volvo S70, 98 vintage with 108,000 on her, runs like a Swiss watch but drinks petrol like a teenager drinks pints of wife beater! The Primera is `in the way` of a work colleague, he`s only wanting 650 quid for it and being a diesel and having a tow bar fitted it might be more practical for me hence my trying to find out all I can about it. |

Chain job..big enough but if you are up for it go for it, normally recommended to change the primary, and secondary chains with the tensioners, remember to prime the tensioners with oil.
I recommend you download the free electronic service manual following the link below Fuel consumption, don't expect great consumption low 40s on fast roads long journeys. Great for towing though
