The thing is, it doesn't feel particularly slow lower down the revs. I gave it a bit of stick on the way to work this morning and it revved cleanly through to 6k rpm but I got fourth gear and it was a bit like hitting a brick wall, acceleration slowed dramatically. I had a P11 SRi a few years back and that had no such issue. Also when going up steepish hills it just doesn't feel like it has the torque in 5th to get up them without a drop to fourth. (only mildly steep i.e. not 1 in 1 or anything daft.

If you go for the Bosch MAF, Euro Car Parts 434700007
It is listed for the 1.8 but works fine on the 2.0 A lot of people have said their car runs a lot better with a new MAF. It usually takes a few days for the fuel trim to adjust to the new MAF. |

Right, as it runs quite smoothly I am going to start with the plugs and HT Leads as they look original (leads) and need doing anyway.
Cleaning the Throttle butterfly and housing did cure the almost stalling when warm so thank you for that saved me some worry. Can anyone recommend plugs? I have always gone for NGK but cant find them for much less than a tenner each!!! Is this about right, even Halfords with trade card was £11.53. On another note, cam chain rattle, does it virtually every time its started, eased following an oil and filter change for a week but back to a rattle for anywhere between 1-2 seconds unless it has literally just been turned off. I will have the rocker cover off at some point but time constraints are preventing me at the minute. Does anyone with some experience think this sounds more likely to be a knackered tensioner or a stretched chain? Idle is pretty steady and the engine sounds ok once everything is warmed up. I don't have a bottomless pit of cash so I don't really want to be replacing bits I don't need to. Thanks again for the part no's, £270 made me feel a bit sick for a MAF |

cam chain rattle on start-up from cold is normal for a second or so and go with ngk spark plugs you will be looking at £20-25 from halfords for 4 no point in going for the expensive "iridium" one's but it's up to you.
I would just change the tensioner and see if you still have the issue's you describe i'm sure there's a how to on her in the "how to section"
