Hi and welcome to the forumHandshake 60k is not much for a Chain, I wonder if it has been poorly maintained in the past. Is it a 1.8? If you are getting a job like that done you may want to do the tensioners and guides as well.

Hi mate,

Just to confirm, that is indeed the common cam chain problem.

Hi,
I've been looking at the numerous threads regarding camchain stretch on the Nissan P12 engines.
Well it looks like the one I have is stretched.
Symptoms :-
Poor starting when cold, if you don't catch it first crank, it's impossible to start for an hour or more (even had it jumped from the works forklift, cranked for ages, no joy. Tried next day and it started first time.
Starting when warm isn't much problem.
Engine management on, 2 faults I think, previous owner says AA told him crank/cam sensor issue, from stretched chain.
Runs fine when running, quiet, smooth if a little sluggish. Fuel consumption a bit high I think.

The car has only 60k on clock, it's in really good nick apart from the above. Reluctant to scrap it, would rather get chain replaced... plus it's a "Flare" so equipment spec is quite good.

Hence why I' posting.
Most garages I usually use won't touch it, having a hard time finding one to even give me a quote!
I'm based in West Yorks, do any of you guys have any suggestions to a good value garage that would do it? My days of spannering are behind me (changing cylinder heads on Escorts at the side of road, cutting a cork clutch for east European motorcycles, mini rear sub-frames etc.)

Cheers guys.

Rev
