On my way home from work today saw a P11 GT on a P plate (1997) Thing took off from the lights like a rocket, couldn't keep up with him (and i did have a moment of madness and try lol) i thought the GT and the newer P11-144 SE+ both use the same 2.0 engine? it was lowered with a loud exhaust so chances are he has hat it tuned or something.
Oh and iw was in the cwmbran area (south wales)

Might of been modded as you say, standard there's only 10bhp difference.

yes, that 10 BHP difference is in favour of the P11 (not the P11-144) ? i read somewhere that the 2.0 in the P11-144 is a mix match of the 1.8 and 2.0 engines from the P11? something to do with smoothing out the power delivery i think

Yep GT is 148bhp from the factory, the 2.0l engine in the 144 have different manifold/pre cat/downpipe,EGR,different intake and a slightly lower rev limit.
The 1.8 (qg18de) is completely different engine and must not be confused with the 2.0l's Early qg's were 114bhp ad later ones 116bhp.These engines were fitted to some 144's and some p12's.These engines have VVT,which makes the engine very responsive in day to day driving. |

cool, cheers for the tech info although im able to do the basics (oil change, brake pads etc...) i'm far from an expert. so the P11-144 2.0L is about 138 bhp? seems like a big power difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 (about 25bhp?) Always wondered why some models of cars would have (for example) a 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 engine option. Can understand if you only have 2 choices 1.6 or 2.0 as there's quite a sizable difference but always thought that slotting a 1.8 in the middle would have been pointless because i always assumed that the difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 would have been very small and like wise with 1.8 and 2.0.
So out of curiosity whats the power of the 1.6? (i'm sure they also had a 1.6 option in the primera) if there's about 25bhp between the 1.8 and 2.0 am i right in assuming the 1.6 is about 90bhp (about 25 down on the 1.8)

The 1.6l (GA16DE) primera is 98bhp.P11 144 se is 138bhp.
Believe it or not the 1.8 is much better at low revs and more flexible than the sr20de,it's a great engine for town, where as imo the sr20de is better for the open road. MPG is near the same.
