Hello Folks, It's a real pleasure, as new member
, to join the NPOC society, and here's to a fruitful relationship. The RAC chap has jaus diagnosed a defective fuel pump for my 2003 P12 1.8 model. Any ideas how to access the fuel pump, and carry out the replacement work ? Much obliged, Thomas

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank,if you remove the rear base for the back seat, you see what looks like a cover, this is where the pump is placed.
Before doing anything fuel related, depressurize the fuel system by pulling the fuel pump fuse and crank over the engine till it stalls, dont fit the fuse again till you have finished. Also disconnect the battery. Welcome to the forum. |

Hi and welcome to the forum
Rare but not unheard of for these to fail.
I recommend you download the free electronic service manual following the link below http://www.npoc.co.uk/forum/nissan-primera-factory-service-manuals_topic29493.html |

Good morning folks, Thanks for the warm welcome as a new member of this splendid organisation.
The responses to my predicament are much appreciated and acknowledged. Whilst on the subject of a suspect fuel pump, what sort of test should I carry out to confirm the pump is defective ( rather than say a suspect fuel filter issue or electrical gremlins)? Much obliged once again, regards Thomas

Well, you have not said much about the fault, other than an RAC man has been out, did he take of the fuel line and turn over the engine?
Is the engine management light on? did he read a code?
The manual above will list the tests to be carried out.

Good afternoon, Thanks for response, and comments appreciated. It's interesting you mention the diagnostic fault code. I used my trusty personal Autel diagnostic
reader, and no fault codes came up ! This was followed by a visit from the RAC ( too cold and dark to be messing about), and after investigation he diagnosed a faulty fuel pump
. However it has occurred to me that I should check out the respective fuse and relay first, before doling out approx. £175 for a new pump. All contributions and comments welcome, regards Thomas

Can you hear the fuel prime (ie buzz for a second or two once the ignition is turned to live via the key?
Whats the reason for the RAC being called out in the first place? Was it due to a loss of power ect or did it stall out or something? Very unlikely you get any codes for a bad fuel pump on a petrol engine. |

Good evening, and thanks for your contribution. I called out the RAC this week because the Primera would start up, and the battery was running down. The RAC chap diagnosed a suspect fuel pump. Coincidentally the incident occurred on coldest morning of the year so far ! I am able to detect the relay switches "clicking" into action once activated by the ignition key. However I have not noticed any active sound from the fuel pump - save the occasional prod with a wooden screwdriver, producing an intermittent "buzz sound". On this occasion the engine will run briefly before cutting out again. Thanks once again, regards Thomas
