About 2-3 weeks ago I noticed the AC was being a bit noisy, a bit like a metal chain’ey tractor’ey type of noise. Not super noisy, but noticeable with the fans on low, radio off and particularly when switching the AC on or off, ie off made it stop.

A few days ago the AC stopped working altogether. So I had it into Kwik Fit for regassing. They thought there was something wrong because they could only achieve 1 bar after regassing when it should be around 4. However they couldn’t detect a leak on the system, so didn’t know why. There advice was ‘try it and see what happens’. As I left Kwik Fit I did have nice cool AC, at least cooler than just prior to when it stopped working.

So that was 2 days ago. Yesterday I turned on the AC and it wasn’t working again. I’ve emailed a Kwik Fit (couldn’t get through on the phone) and am waiting for their reply. However when they regassed it their technician said they’d need to bring in an AC specialist to investigate things further. So I don’t have a lot of faith that they’ll quickly get to the root of the problem.

I’m open to folks thoughts and advice.

You've got a leak somewhere if the pressure wont hold/build.

Kwikfit are fine for a Regas.
I think you should get a refund if it has failed. Unless their policy has changed.

You would be better going to a proper AC Company who can diagnose the fault and fix it.
They will either use a Dye and UV Light or a Sniffer to detect where the Leak is.

Condensor is the most common place for a leak.
A Colleague got a quote of £350 for a Mobile AC Man to replace Condensor and regas. Not a Primera but should give you an idea.

Thx. Yep, I’m trying to get my money back from Kwik Fit and then will try one of the independent specialists, as you suggest.

Totally agree with the reply above, it even kwikfit’s ma nine should have recognised a leak and prevented gassing the system. £70-£80 for a condensor to ftt yourself, you just have to move the rad back to replace and you need PAG oil for lubrication
