Hi and welcome to the forum both of youHandshake

The P12 is very susceptible to changes in voltage and as the wire carry signal around the car to the ECU strange things can happen. In most instances it is a poor earth or blown bulb. In this case it is the door lock

I recommend you download the free electronic service manual following the link below

http://www.npoc.co.uk/forum/nissan-primera-factory-service-manuals_topic29493.html

Go to page BL119 you will need to to check the connector, power and operation to determine where the fault liesThumbs Up

Thanks for sharing the link unfortunately i am unable to download it at the moment ! Will try later when you say the door lock is at fault do you mean the boot lock/press button may have a earth fault or the needs replacing - i assume this will then cure the number plate light once plugged back in many thanks for sharing your help

If you downloaded the most recent version including the 1.9 dci, there are actually two versions of the BL section, the numbering is not the same in both.
To get the switch out, you need to remove the finishing trim on the inside, then remove the license plate finisher (which unforunately unbolts from the inside, hence the need to remove the trim on the inside). There are crossreferences to the EI section to help with that.

Probably faulty boot opening switch or in the wiring of that switch. The car thinks someone is trying to open the boot while the ignition is on.
