Hi, is it possible that the 1997 model was sold in some quantity in Europe, but was not created in Sunderland? Came directly from Japan? Just wondering because a guy is selling one 1997 diesel Primera and says it's from Japan...?

Japan doesn't use the standard 17 digit VIN. Japanese Primera would have a chassis number of HP11 or P11 followed by 6 numbers for the SR 2.0L and SR 1.8L respectively. Toss an N before the P if AWD, making it 11 digits.
Japan's Oppama plant didn't have diesels or GA 1.6, nor did they build their own 5 door hatchbacks, but they did import Sunderland built hatchbacks for the Japanese market in small quantities. |
