OK, here's one for you.
From a cold start, the idle is around 1500rpm, after a few mins or a bit of driving, idle settles to to the norm. This may be normal for a cold start and unconnected (I haven't had the car for long). The main issue is this; When I stop at traffic lights, or at a junction (clutch and brake) the revs surge to about 2000rpm, then drop to normal. I thought the first few times that I was catching the accelerator with my shoe when braking, but no, bigfoot did not strike here. Asides from the annoyance, I feel like a twat pulling up at lights!  What are your initial thoughts on this? Sticking butterfly? MAF sensor TPS? Cheers for any suggestions. Steve. 2006 Primera P12 1.6 QG16DE engine |

Hi Steve.
All of that is absolutely fine fella.
On choke the idle will be around 1500 before settling when warm.
The revs will rise as you come to stop, due to the anti stall device all Primeras have built in... You will get used to it and you'll also find different ways of getting around it (driving style etc).

Built in anti stall? what will they think of next? probably have a car one day that changes gears for you, or turns on the wipers in the rain! - Modern technology!

This one was still bothering me, idle too high and the surge too high even for the anti-stall feature.
Anywhoo, fixed it! I did an "Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning" followed by a "Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning" I had to do the above as they are preconditions to completing..... "Idle Air Volume Learning" during which my idle went from 1100 down to 300 then up to 750 and stabilised there. Now she starts and idles beautifully, and no longer surges on clutch at traffic lights!
