Hi,
I've got a leak from the power steering hose. How do I get access to replace it?
Cheers,
Nigel

2.2 dCi It's the thick U-shaped one that you can see from underneath, but can't reach.  It's labelled "For high pressure " on the YD engine picture on page PS 25 of the ESM. At least that's where the drips are forming.

I've had a quote for a new pipe in the three hundred quid range. Are then any cheaper options?

Cheers,
Nigel

Ok is it coming from that pipe itself or it's connection to the pas pump? At the pump there's 2 copper sealing washers and it's maybe leaking from there and running along the pipe and dripping off?

Either way,you need to be under the car to undo the banjo bolt on the pump.

A bit of background...
I took the car to a garage this morning and they put it on a lift. From underneath they could see that fluid was dripping from the low point of the hose.

As you say, it's possible that it's leaking from around those washers. However, the problem is that the garage can't work out how to get access to the ends of the hose in order to find out which end it's leaking from.

Local garage , not Nissan, reckons that it's seven hours labour to remove and refit the hose!!!

Job done. In the end, we went in from the top after taking off the wipers and cowl. The night before I filled up the little cups surrounding the wiper spindles with penetrating oil: they came off really easily the next morning.

Once we had the hose off I had a replcement made at a local hydraulic pipe company. I had the old hose pressure tested before they started work and sure enough it was leaking. They used the old ends on a new hose: even so it was €140. But that's a bargain compared to the €300+ that Nissan were asking. I got them to take some photos before they cut up the old hose to make sure that they got the relative orientation of the ends right on the new one.

The new one was a pain to fit as it was quite stiff and we kept dropping a washer.
