Congratulations go to Lee (formerly Surfamakikomi) for winning Car of the Month for November 2006.

His awesome GX is a good example of how you can modify a car with GT parts and look just as good.!

Well done Lee, how does it feel to win CotM?

Well its come as a massive surprise, it feels good that the time that I spend on the car is getting it noticed. Plus as an added bonus it also comes in the same month as my birthday (24 now).

Before we discuss the car, can you tell us about yourself?

I’m a recent graduate with a master’s degree in computer systems engineering. I’m currently working with a small company who specialise in energy management. At the moment I’m living with my parents in Abercynon in sunny south Wales.

How did you come to own this particular car, is it your first Primera? How did you find NPOC?

I found the Primera by accident really, as I was looking for a 1.6Si and a trade garage near me said they had 2 of them. After a venture down to the garage I could not find any Si’s, but what I did find was a 2.0 GX and a P10 2.0 SRi in white. The newer looks of the P11 won it for me and the plus was that the P11 had only 49k on her. Like many members on here I found the club while looking for Primera information on google.

Have you always aimed to arrive at how the car looks now or has it just built up in stages? Have you aimed to show that the GX can look just as good as the GT?

I think the basic outline for the car I had from the start after seeing many different Primeras, but there have also been times when parts were bought for the car on the spur of the moment, like the leather seats and the exhaust. I think the main idea behind my car has been to show that you don’t need a GT or a lot of cash to make the car look good. The car is a tribute to the club, as about 99% of the modifications have been sourced through the club. It all started when Dave Evans got me his old GT rear spoiler and I’ve now got parts from countless NPOC members.

The Dave parts trail goes on! Have you modified any other cars or is this your first?

I had minor modifications on my previous car. Which was alloys, colour coding and different grill to a K-reg Vauxhall Cavalier. The Primera is my first venture into modifying a car to my exact taste.

Can you tell us what modifications you’ve made to the car and also, the single mod you’re most happy with?

To date the modifications are:

Modified GT front bumper
GT Rear bumper
GT Side skirts
GT Grills
Renault Laguna front splitter
GT Rear Spoiler
17” TSW Apex Alloys
S/S Cat back exhaust
eGT Cam Cover
K&N Cone Filter
Ade’s design strut brace
Full leather GTLE interior
Colour Coded Dash
GT Leather steering wheel
MOMO gear knob and gaiter
Custom Solid wood rear parcel shelf
Kenwood 7x10 rear speakers
Pioneer front door speakers
Kenwood Minidisc head unit with 6disc CD changer

Without a shadow of doubt my favourite would be the K&N air filter as in my opinion it makes the car sound amazing. It makes me smile every time I put my foot down and hear it roar away.

Any future plans for the car you’d care to share?!

Well the next few weeks for my car will be very interesting as I have been toying with making a few more subtle changes to the car. I think I’m going to give the car a more American G20 look but still keeping the Nissan emblems.

Sounds intriguing. With a huge pile of cash, what would you most like to do to the car?

Well I’d love to take a skyline GTR engine and mount it in the rear of the primera and have a mid engined monster.

You’ve been on the Primera scene for some time now, how do you think it has changed over the years?

I think it’s gone from strength to strength. Its good to see more and more different idea’s on the scene and every member I’ve met has been a good laugh and I think that when the whole club pulled together to save the marquee at JAE this year is what the club is all about.

Can we hope to see the GX around the shows and events in 2007?

Yes definitely, I’m planning on going to as many meets and shows as I can and hopefully showing off my car one stage further on from this year.

Congratulations again for winning the coveted Car of the Month award, your GX is a worthy winner and we all bow down to the work you have done! Please give your shouts and thanks to anyone you wish:

Well I must thank everyone in the club, you’re all stars. I’d also like to personally thank Dave Evans, Chris L46 GTG, Shaun, Ade and everyone who has made me feel welcome over these last few years.
