My P11 SRI had its Mot this morning and failed

In a word 'Gutted'

Heres a few things it failed on that are concerning me, I'l not list all of them or i'l be here all day

Offside front anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a pin/bush
Offside near Anti-roll bar linlage severley distorted
Nearside Front suspension has excessive movement in wishbone bearing
offside Front suspension has excessive movement at wishbone bearing
Nearside and offside seatbelt anchorage areas priscribed areas are excessively corroded (the sills in front of the rear tyres
Nearside rear mcpherson strut has excessive movement at the upper attachment

Ok, What I was going to do was just replace the whole 2 front struts with units from the scrapyard as well as the rear, my mechanic advised me not to try and replace the bearings as he said they are a pig to do and the replacements wouldint last long?

Are the struts exackly the same on the GT as the SRI as my worry is not being able to reattach the strut bar

Cheers for any info

The wishbone bearings that you listed, does the tester mean the king pin bearings as there is no bearing on the wishbone.
As for you mechanic saying not to replace the bearings as they won't last he is talking crap. As long as you get a good quality replacements and they are fitted properly they will be as good as new. If you do replace them get the seal and metal cap as that will stop the water getting in and funking you new bearings.

Front anti roll bar links are a easy fix and will cost about £15ish from a motor factors.
There are no rear anti roll bars on a P11 so not sure what item 2 on your list is.

The strut movement can be sorted with a trip to your local scrap yard.

a bit of welding and your sorted Thumbs Up

Yep that is the ball joint. You will need to replace the whole lower arm iirc.

Yes I think he means the king pin bearings Dennyboy, He said they were halfway up the strut so I reckon its those he's on about, I know, It threw me when he said wishbone bearing

I'l price the bearings at Andy Page's tomoz, There is a breaking 98 SRI in my local scrappy, might be worth checking the conditions of the front struts, however with bearings and the like id rather replace with new parts, as whats to say the ones in the scrappy arnt knackered aswell

Yes Satanism I think balljoint aswell

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I am looking at doing mine too.  They are so rusty I can't really see what holds them in.  Is it just an interference fit or is there some clips in among all the crud somewhere?

Cheers, GDL.
