Hi everyone.

I'm new to NPOC although not that new to Primeras.

I recently purchased a 2003 P12 Primera 1.8 SE Estate as my general family car but I've owned a P11 estate in the past, along with a plethora of other makes and models.  I'm 25 but owned in excess of around 50 cars in 7 years of driving.  I get bored easily.

Really like the P12.  It's a cracking car in and out although is nothing more than an A-B family/work barge.  I am tempted to make some minor modifications but at the moment it's just what it is.  I do have a few minor niggles though, hence why I've signed up to try and get some info!

Anyway, shamefully I haven't actually taken any of my own photos of the Primy so I've stolen this one from the advertisement when I bought it.

Cheers for looking!

Already have.

Airbag warning light was problem no1.

Found this thread :  http://www.npoc.co.uk/forum/p12-airbag-warning-light-reset_topic3275.html - http://www.npoc.co.uk/forum/p12-airbag-warning-light-reset_topic3275.html

Sorted!

Problem no2. is that the aircon doesn't work.  Hasn't since I owned it so I got it regassed just to see if it cured the problem.  It worked perfect for a day and after being left overnight, died again.  Probably one for a garage to look into as I know nothing about aircon but who knows, maybe an aircon guru on here that could point me in the right direction or recommend a specialist?

Did the place that re-gassed your system carry out a pressure test?

No idea to be honest.  It was kwik fit if it makes any difference.  Not that I usually use them, was just a hot sunday morning and we were going on a long journey.

They do, but it's based on that your air con will blow colder, or your money back.  Can't really argue that it didn't, although only for a day, which isn't there fault really as the air con system obviously has a problem somewhere.

Plus, it was over a month ago now.  Probably a bit late to try and claim anything from them.  Still wouldn't solve the problem anyway and to be honest,  I wouldn't trust them to do anything more involving than a regas.

Fair enough, just thinking that if it has leaked then it would be their fault for not checking the system properly

You're probably right but as said, it was over a month ago now.  I'm sure they wouldn't even give me the time of day.

Wecome to NPOC,

Kwik Fit do a vaccuum test. If it fails, they won't gas. They do not do air con repairs.
I am sure someone on here got a refund after it failed within a couple of weeks.

A proper aircon place will put a UV dye in with the gas. This helps finding slow leaks.

That's where they went wrong.
Air-con systems work under pressure, not vaccuum.
The gas gets blown out under pressure, while vaccuum testing (unles it is a pretty bad leak) can actually close-up the hole/slit or whatever.

Cheers for the explanation.  Makes sense why somewhere like Kiwk Fit wouldn't notice a problem.

I've got a great local independent that I use for everything I can't/wont do myself so will get it over to them when I get the chance.  Seems it will never get done as I'm always at work...

Hi there,

We were concerned to read your comments about the air con re-gas. Please take your car back to the Kwik Fit centre and explain the situation. We do have a '
Cooler air-conditioning or your money back' guarantee.

Kind regards,

Gerry
