How confident are you that this will solve the problem and why has this occurred? Thank you

It is a matter of starting simple and working from there. The P12 carries signal through its electrics this sometimes gets corrupted and some strange symptoms can ensue. Many a problem can be resolved this way. After that we will start looking at fuses, relays and the console itself.

Are the audio functions working, exactly which buttons functions are not working?

So neither rotary buttons work, you cant use buttons 1-6 on audio and climate control, you cant use settings and info buttons or TA and src?

You need to re-check using a multi meter or by exchange fuses 1, 10 and 33. Look in the fusible link section in the engine bay for C and D

Where does it tell you it'd fuse c and d there not marked or am I missing the point ?

Date Posted: 16 Apr 2017 at 8:37am
I am just going of the circuit diagrams, if they are not marked individually they maybe shown on the cover lid other than that you are going to have to apply some logic to it or test them all

OK thank you i will update when I get round to testing them

Multifunction Switch Controls Are Ineffective (Rear Defogger Control Excluded).

There is a fault tracing guide in the 2003 service manual starting on page AV-99 to AV-101 which may help.

If in doubt give it a clout!

Sorry it's 04 reg could it be possibly the console that's at fault ?

To be honest I have not heard of anyone having an issue like this and hardly recall an issue with these units that a battery disconnection has not put right, despite the number of units I see for sale on ebay.

So could it will be the console its self rather than the wiring?

Posted By: anthony8384
Date Posted: 17 Apr 2017 at 6:27pm
I meant most likely a wiring fault

Posted By: timeshock!
Date Posted: 17 Apr 2017 at 6:36pm
I think it will be earth fault in the wiring. A multi meter on the connectors as recommended earlier is in order

Once the fault is found would it be straight forward fix ?

Posted By: timeshock!
Date Posted: 17 Apr 2017 at 7:12pm
That's an impossible one to answers, it would depend on the fault and location. finding which pin is not reading will indicate the wire then you have to trace it, not easy in my opinion

I'm having the same problem with my '04 p12 but the screen is blank as well. Disconnected battery last night for 20 min and it solved the problem - until this morning. Screen is blank again and no buttons work except rear demister...

You say you have an 04 plate Matt, has it got 3 dials with silver rings or 4 that come on with ignition?

If your screen is not working I think this is a different issue to the original post. Get a hair dryer an blow hot air in the ashtray under the DVD player (I am assuming you hav sat nav in the dash) see if the screen comes back on

Thanks for your comments guys. Mine has the 3 silver rings.
Here's the thing - mine does not have the sat nav. Also, I replaced the original Nissan stereo with my own Bluetooth/DAB stereo a few years back (I posted photos on a thread here somewhere).
Everything has been working fine for about 3 years so I'm pretty sure my issue wasn't caused by myself.
Anyway, I took the centre console out this morning. Disconnected all the block connectors, took the screen out, blew dust out of everything and put it all back together making sure everything was firmly connected. My screen is back on and console buttons are working again.
Not sure how long it's going to last though...

Hi and welcome to the forumHandshake
Do you have sat nav?
Is yours a Japanese import?

Problem is the same, screen/buttons are not working except rear demister and hazard lights.
Mine doesnt have SAT NAV installed what might be the problem and possible solution?
Checked fuses inside, connectors are firmly connected
haven`t tried outside fuses box and disconnecting the battery

Solved myself: Blown fuse in fuse box under the hood. Audio fuse to be specific.

A quick update -
I bought a replacement screen off eBay for £16 and replaced the old faulty one. Everything is back up and running and has been fine ever since.
I guess the problem was caused entirely by the screen...
