Just a quick intro'
I found this site while browsing the web for info about a new(ish) primera I'm buying.
I recently had my first primera written off after I side swiped at a junction. It was a 97 "R" plate and was good for another 10 years
I've just left a deposit for a 2001 "51" plate at a local dealers, subject to spongey brakes being rectified. It was only a £20.00 refundable deposit so here's hoping I get another great primera.
Not sure wether to post my queery in this thread but here goes anyway,,,
Should the 1.8 engine in the Activ model spit oil out of the filler cap when the engine is running??
The oil seems clean enough with no signs of water or gasket damage and the engine sounds fine!
Thanks in advance and hoping not to seem too cheeky for asking advice as a total newcomer
Bob.

Hi Bob, welcome to the club.
I'm no mechanic but I've never had a car that spits out of the filler cap before. It's not split or anything is it?

Hi Steve
No, I meant when I was checking for back pressure, I removed the filler cap with the engine running. It's a check I was told to do years ago on older cars, not sure if it still applies.

yep, oil will always spit out with the engine running m8, it's cos of the cams spinning, the "older" car filler cap off test, was fine ... mainly cos they were usually overhead valve, not overhead cams
welcome in m8, whereabouts in cleveland are you ?

Welcome to NPOC Bob, That 's pretty normal on most cars with the filler cap removed as far as I know.
Not cheeky at all. Ask away, that's what we are here for
