Hello fellow owners and club members!
As the subject suggests I have a problem with my P12 Sve (2003 2.2 Diesel). The problem is with the Navi and the Stereo and is of an intermittent nature. The Sat nav and audio cannot be accessed/turned on using the console buttons or the steering mounted control (audio and 'Info'). When this happens while driving, "Secure" in green gets displayed after a few minutes. After restarting the system (ignition on off couple of times) the problem eventually will get sorted out. When it does, the system works beautifully without any issues. I have noticed that the problem will occur straightaway if the reversing camera has been used (car reversed out of driveway for instance). Other times it will just happen without any pattern (I have been observing only for 24 hours- I shall keep an eye out for any more patterns and update accordingly). Kindly advise/ help me sort this issue out. Thank you everyone in advance.

Green secure message usually means failing or failed audio unit or a communication error with the nats unit. You r indicator are not on by any chance? might be worth checking around the car for any blown bulbs. Have you swapped any bulbs recently?
You could try this simple procedure just to eliminate electric interference issues

Timeshock! Glad to see your message. Your advise on other posts have been really helpful in the past with my mother's P12!
I actually fixed the earthing on the nearside rear bulb cluster as i had the typical fog lamp on the dash issue when braking or indicating to the right. Failing audio unit means... replacement of the DVD unit or the CD unit or is there a different box al together? Kindly advise on how to investigate the NATS system issue. Could weak batteries on the key fobs cause an issue? Thank you.

This NATS (Nissan anti-theft system) is so complicated and very little information is available about an audio fault that is difficult to know what to do.
The diagram indicates a communication link from the audio immobilizer to the IMMU which for some bizzare reason is also the SECU (smart entrance control system) so while it does not mention an issue between key (battery) and SECU it could be an indicator. Do you have another key?
There is a hidden menu access here
http://www.npoc.co.uk/forum/p12-service-reminder-reset_topic3274.html selct audio and see if anything is thrown up. The connection between system is made through the 29 pin connector from the AUDIO to SECU so a possible fault could lie here It may just be indicating that the audio unit is failing, because the message is green it ruling out SAT NAV fault that would be red.
Is the NATS light normal Red Man0 does it come on while this issue is present? |

I see. It does sound complicated for a DIY fix. I will have a look at the hidden menu. Thank you.
1) The Secure message has come on only twice. Other times the radio/CD feature cannot be controlled if already turned on. The volume gets locked at a certain level, the radio channel gets locked and the audio cannot be turned off using the "Off" button. 2) The steering controls (2003 model hence no cruise control- Black Remote) do not work either. 3) Bulbs are all okay. The earthing issue was sorted out - unless there could be more! 4) I have 2 keys. Both lock and unlock without any problems. I have a spare CD unit and a spare Sat nav unit. If the unit is at fault, will replacing the CD unit solve the issue or is there another module ?

Update:
The self Diagnosis (via Hidden Menu) shows the CD Changer (dont have -Think it means the player) and Audio unit in 'Yellow' as opposed to Sat Nav and controls in 'Green'. Message: "The line to the following devices is not responding : CD Changer / Audio Unit " Ill check for loose connections. Otherwise looks like a replacement is required. Kindly advise if the CD unit contains the audio unit as well or is there is a separate unit altogether. Can radio specialists repair such an issue? Thank you. Eagerly awaiting replies.

Thanks for the additional information, do you get this issue with both keys?
It is sounding like an audio player fault and the audio unit does contain the cd player, however on your model if a cd changer was fitted it would be located in the boot.
If you change the player then you will need t get it recoded by Nissan.
I would have thought an auto electrician specialising in audio may be able to repair the unit, Clarion who manufacture them does but the cost normally puts people off.

Hi Timeshock!
Yes I can confirm the problem persists with both the keys. There is a post or two on npoc that suggests independent garages are able to accomplish the re coding for £30- £40. However I want to make sure it is really the audio unit that is the culprit. The 2003 p12 has a steering remote. Does this make the units pre 2003 .E.g. 2002 incompatible or is the remote just a parallel wiring to the corresponding console keys. I am asking as I have a Cd and Sat Nav (donor for DC-DC converter for Mum's 2002 P12) unit in the shed. I checked there is no CD changer. I think the software is programmed that way so as to make it compatible with P12s with or w/o Cd changer. Would you know if the temp gauge on the diesel model stays very low as compared to the petrol models. I am asking as I wish to make sure there are no other inter related issues. Thank you for your support and advise.

The change over on Primeras was 2004 when the electrics, audio and cosmetics were changed so you have compatibility with the other one.
I don't think coding is going to help you in this case, you have a fault somewhere that needs rectifying. If you swap out the unit and get it recoded you might get lucky if the fault is on the audio, if it returns then the fault is on the wiring/communication with the IMMU
The temp gauge should be around 11:00

The self diagnostic showed an issue with the Audio unit.
There are no other as such issues with the electrics. When the audio runs, it function beautifully. But when it gets locked, it cannot be controlled with either of the controls- Volume Dial , Stop button on the centre console or the steering mounted buttons. Is there anything in the ESM that could help me trace the issue and determine if it is a IMMU /NATS issue or the audio unit. As for the temp needle, mine stays below cold for good 5 - 8 mins then climbs slowly to and 8 o clock position. Whereas in the other p12 (2002 1.8 sve petrol) in the household, it starts to climb slowly and stays at the 10/11 o clock 'ish position! |
