My Nissan Primera P11 (1996) has some 'play' on the front wheels caused by a worn power steering. The rack inside the power steering assembly can actually move slightly due to wear. I've heard it is possible to adjust the power steering while it is still on the vehicle. However I attempted it and was unsuccessful, the space is very limited and I couldn't really get a socket on the outer nut. I tried to bodge a solution by buying a cheap socket and cutting it down. Even with the brackets that hold the power steering in place loosened, I still couldn't get the nut undone. There just isn't really enough clearance to get the socket on properly and exert enough force using a long wrench. I'm curious has anybody successfully adjusted the power steering on a P11 with the power steering rack still in place ? Taking the power steering assembly off will be a big job given my limited mechanical skills. Thanks for any advice. |
