I have a 1999 Nissan Primera P11 144 registered 30th September 1999, sometimes when I play a cassette it jams on when I switch the engine off, there is no sound but the light stays on and drains the battery. Is there anything I can do to stop this please? Thank you.

For example:

A) Get it professionally fixed
B) New headunit
C) Take your unit off, in the plug, find the +\live wire and cut it. Find in your dash a switch gap, buy a on/off switch and run a wire from this new switch to the live wire you cutted. This way the head unit will only work once you push the new switch. When you leave the car, you cancel everything and stop drainings

Thank you.

I am a bit nervous about cutting wires at the moment.

I can always disconnect my battery, I was concerned about this before as I thought it would scramble the radio but it has not.

Or disconnect the radio fuse... easier

I could not find a specific radio fuse on the fuse box key.
