Ghah! don't know what happened but I posted before I finished the title or wrote the post & couldn't edit?
Anyway, 2005 2.0 petrol primera, wnet to start it, it fired once & stopped, when I cranked it again, it cranked like there was no compression, 99.9% certain that timing chain snapped. the car is not worth much but it is v low mileage 70k unless it's been clocked but wear & tear suggest mileage is ok. if there is no valve damage, it is worth fitting a new cam chain but if there is valve damage, the cost of repair is probably more than the car is worth? Does anyone know of any way to check for valve damage without spending much time / money on dismantling the engine? obviously I don't want to spend cash to find out that the car is scrap. TIA

High and welcome to the forum
The P12 is an interference engine, if the cam chain is snapped and the engine turned over it is inevitable that the crank turned and the cams did not
