 Hi all,

i need new tyres for my P11 144. the size im after is 205/50/R16 87V. my budget is £160 and having searched online, i could find some budget tyres on sites like black circle.

has anyone used that site or their budget tyres, or would recommend budget tyres ? My other alternatives from the site are Fateo AR550 or Nexen CP641 or shall i go for budget ones. javascript:fnShowProductModel%28?modelid=8681689&cid=912&productid=11407901%29; -

Have a look here - http://www.mytyres.co.uk/start.html - http://www.mytyres.co.uk/start.html

In your size (and for £40.80 each), i'd go for the Nankang NS-2. Remember, fitting will be extra.

FireStorm: yes £160 - £180 for 4 tyres, not 1 lol

GT_Andy: Thanks, ill check it out. i can get it fitted from a local shop as black circle's fitters are charging £50 nearly for fitting etc

Used Blackcircles before, paid £20 a tyre for budget tyres, which lasted me 20,000 miles - on the front, which is pretty impressive. Only just recently changed them over, and they still had a fair amount of tread.

Dunno matey, i did a bit o reasearch and any tyre size i put in for 195/55/16 V all came up the most expensive. anything over 205 or 215/45/17" V were hec of alot cheaper.

all i would say is that as far as i'm concerned tyres are an investment...

only thing between you and the road...so all i suggest is reading up a little on some reviews for the tyres your buying...

and after having a cheap old bastard tyre blow out on me at 90mph for no apparant reason...brought home to me quite rapidly why i pay that little bit extra for tyres...

that being said i had some Nankang NS2's before and they were brill...

Got my front tyres from Blackcircles back in sept - v good price and sorted no worries.

On the subject of cheap tyres - not for me thanks, my car is worth a lot more than £180 if those tyres decide to let go. So I go for the mid range ones, but I wouldnt bother going for the £180 each Michelin Bendovers.

hmmm some mixed responses.

so what i gather from the above is that the budget tyres from black circle are good and lasted long for those who used them, but ideally you should go for something mid range.

i also need to look at my budget, so what do you guys suggest, shall i just use the budget ones or use Fateo AR550 or Nexen CP641 ?? i havent heard of these makes before though but they are an alternative for me to black circle value tyres

Stupid question, but do you need to replace all 4 now?

You could get 2 mid range ones now and slap em on the front, save a bit then get the other 2 done.  If you do, its always worth asking them to put the ones from the front on the back when you get the second pair.

Why are you buying such cheap nasty tyres? If your budget is £160 you should be looking at tyres that'll hold you to the road best:

Something like these will grip fantastically and for £70 they're the cheapest you'll find them anywhere.

I'm amazed how many people have cheapo rubbish tyres on their car! Admittedly i have those Nankang NS-2's on mine, but only because i literally couldn't afford anything else. They're ok in the dry, but horrible in the wet. I'll be going to Eagle F1's as soon as my student loan comes through!

It needed pointing out didn't itSmile

I've used Nexens before, no complaints - They are a hard compound, so long lasting but not as grippy as others.

The best call here is for the Nankangs (used loadsa times), in the size you want and brand new, they are £36 per tyre plus delivery.

Nexens are £38.50 etc

That is from eBay and current as I write this.

Cheers,
Shaun

yes that is true, but local shops will have used tyres, and i dont know how much tread would be a good identifier to go for a used tyre?  id rather buy new ones, as i think it works out better

Posted By: ragt20
Date Posted: 25 Apr 2008 at 1:06am
I wasn't meaning used ones,  no doubt they will have them...(part worns etc) but I've managed to get some deals in the past where they've only had say four of one type of tyre in stock, (brand new) its better for them to knock down the price and get rid of all four in one go, rather than split em and risk having the odd one lying around....got some pirellis cheap like that once and goodyears...

hence always worth a quick call around....ya never know yer luck...

If shopping around locally, avoid all big chains like Kwikshit and the like.. They aren't competitively priced.

You must have independant small tyre places, these guys are the ones to visit. Tell them (or even show them the eBay page printed out), that you can get the tyres at such a price but mention how you would prefer your local tradesmen to benefit from your business (sounds cheesy but does work).

If you're buying mail order only or online from eBay etc.. Factor in around £10 per tyre to get them fitted locally too.

Do try your local tyre places, you may be surprisedSmile - The markup on tyres is bloody massive to what they buy them in at.

Nexen and Nankang ar pretty much identical tryes in the wet and both similar compounds.

The problem you have (in all honesty) is the budget you've set yaself.. You're not going to get performance tyres (good in wet and dry) on that budget.

So within the budget, Nankang is the choice and you just gotta drive accordingly to the weather conditionsSmile - Or increase you budget by £100 ish

i know you want new, but its worth shopping around for part worns imo, id rather have 4 decent but part worn tyres than 4 brand new budget tyres, probably find they havent done many miles anyway (no point them selling knackered tyres), plus you normally save a decent amount, im sure one place around here only charges between £25 and £35 including fitting for 15's, obviously price depends on exact size, make, tread etc but worth looking in to.

hmm yeah, i think best thing is to check out the local shops tomorrow and see whats available.

for nexen im getting cp461, heard that n3000 is ok but cudnt find reviews on cp461. Toyo proxes cf1 seems a touch higher then my budget, but if they are good tyres then i can jus add up some more money and get them instead.

so options for now are, check out local shops, nexen cp461, black circle budget tyres lol or save a bit more and get Toyo Proxes CF1 :(

I got some part worns on the Xantia today. Only 185/65-15s but £17 per tyre fitted and balanced. I asked about 205/45-16s for the P10 and he said £25 all in per wheel. I didn't look at the brand or anything on the ones for the Xantia as it's just a stop gap and I don't exactly corner like a maniac in it...can you in one Tongue

This makes little sense to me.

Tyres are one of the most important components on a car. The difference between how quickly a car will stop in the wet on the best tyres and how quickly it will stop on the worst tyres, both brand new, is about six car lengths! It's not trivial. It's the difference between pulling up in time or sending people to hospital. The difference between giving the six-year-old a fright or driving right over the top of him.

My advice is to try to figure out the best tyres to buy and then find the money. Concentrate on wet grip because the differences in dry grip across all tyres is only a couple of percent but the wet grip differences are huge.

Some poor bloke had crashed his new car which was then broken down and sold its parts to the local garage.
These are just like new and brand new ones are like £85 each !!

I am happy with their performance so far.
