Nissan primera SX estate 2005   P12

When I put the left (NS) indicator on in flashes at varying speeds. Also the cruise control cancels. I had the rear loom replaced last year & it cured itself. Now it has returned. I removed the indcator bulb cluster & cleaned everything up (although it wasn't dirty), fiddled with loom. All was well for a while then the fault returned. Is this a known problem? Maybe it's at the steering housing stalk end. I've taken out the steering wheel cover screws but still can't see how to get it off. I don't want to crack it. Is it just brute force?
Any help gratefully received.

This is for the Hatch but worth trying on your Estate.
Poor Factory Earth at the rear is a known fault that causes odd electrical problems and hesitations when indicating.
