I've made a video that suggests how to check for a blown head gasket on a Nissan Primera P12. It includes how to:

check for contaminated engine oil
evaluate the exhaust smoke (via its colour)
consider the engine’s performance (and whether it overheats)
use a head gasket tester kit.
